About Us
The Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) has recently been contracted by the Alabama Medicaid Agency to perform the Inpatient Hospital Quality Assurance Program. This program includes the following:
- Quarterly random sample review of hospital inpatient admissions
- Annual collection of hospital’s utilization review plans
- Annual review of 50% sample of utilization review plans
- Annual review of 50% sample of Medical Care Evaluation (MCE) studies
In 1972, AFMC became the Medicare Professional Standards Review Organization (PSRO), later the Peer Review Organization (PRO) and now the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the state of Arkansas. AFMC began providing utilization review services for the Arkansas Medicaid program in the mid 1980’s. Currently we provide prior authorization services under contract with Arkansas Medicaid for inpatient hospital stays, indicated surgical procedures, durable medical equipment, enteral feeding supplies, transportation services and Child Health Management Services. In addition, we review for extension of benefit limits for physician office visits, laboratory and imaging services and other outpatient benefits. We perform retrospective reviews for hospital inpatient stays and emergency department visits.
AFMC has a long history of working with various types of providers of medical services. We will work with providers to determine the most efficient and cost effective way of chart submission. We accept charts via traditional mail, in PDF format on compact disc, or we will work with hospitals who wish to provide online access to medical records.
